Plot Rental & Protection

In MapArt Land Rental, players select a plot size (Plot Type) tailored to their project's canvas dimensions and secure a timed lease (Lease). This guide covers available plot types, the two-tier protection system, lease lifecycles, and automated reset behavior.

Plot Types and Canvas Sizes

Plots are calibrated against the standard vanilla Minecraft map grid (128 × 128 blocks). Available types depend on server configuration:

Plot TypeCanvas Size (Map Bounds)Number of Vanilla MapsTypical Usage
128128 × 128 blocks1 map (1 × 1)Standard single map art
256256 × 256 blocks4 maps (2 × 2)Medium composite map art
512512 × 512 blocks16 maps (4 × 4)Large composite murals
10241024 × 1024 blocks64 maps (8 × 8)Mega projects
20482048 × 2048 blocks256 maps (16 × 16)Giant high-resolution panoramas

Two-Tier Protection Boundaries

Plots feature a two-tier spatial design separating the Map Bounds from the Lease Bounds:

+---------------------------------------------+
| Lease Bounds |
| +-------------------------------------+ |
| | | |
| | Map Bounds | |
| | (e.g., 128x128) | |
| | | |
| +-------------------------------------+ |
| ↑ lease-buffer (default 16) |
+---------------------------------------------+

Map Bounds

The exact canvas rendered onto the vanilla map. It aligns precisely with vanilla map coordinates so that your placed blocks render squarely without shifts or cutoffs.

Lease Bounds

The full usable build area, formed by expanding the Map Bounds with the server's configured lease-buffer (default: 16 blocks) on all sides. For instance, a size 128 plot with a 16-block buffer provides a 160 × 160 block workable area.

  • External Scaffolding: Build catwalks and scaffolding outside the canvas to view or build edges easily.
  • Chests & Staging Areas: Store building materials, beds, and crafting stations outside the canvas area, keeping them off the finished artwork.
  • Impassable Outer Wall: Players cannot move outside their accessible Lease Bounds into unleased gaps or adjacent plots. Attempting to cross pushes the player back safely.

Protection Enforcement

Within the lease boundary, the plugin enforces strict protection:

  • Block & Fluid Security: Unauthorized players cannot place or break blocks, or flow liquids into the plot.
  • Falling Blocks: Sand, gravel, and concrete powder are permitted only when their source and destination locations both reside within the same active lease. Cross-border drops are denied.
  • Pistons & Explosions: Block push/pull operations and TNT/creeper damage are strictly contained within the plot.

Rental Durations and Grace Periods

Leases follow a structured lifecycle:

[ Lease Start ] ──────> [ Expiration ] ──────> [ Grace Period End ] ──────> [ Auto-Reset ]
↑ ↑ ↑
Initial Days Extendable Days Grace Period
(e.g., 7 days) (up to max cap) (e.g., 24 hours)
  • Initial Lease Duration: The default period granted upon rental (typically 7 days).
  • Lease Extensions: Players can extend their lease before it expires. The total duration from initial start cannot exceed the configured cap (typically 60 days).
  • Grace Period: When a lease reaches its expiration date, it enters a grace period (typically 24 hours). During this window, block editing is locked, but players can still enter the plot to retrieve items from chests. Extending the lease during the grace period restores normal active status.

Plot Release and Automated Resets

When building is complete, or when a plot is no longer needed, it should be released.

Release Workflow

  1. Clear your personal belongings, tools, and materials from chests.
  2. Confirm that all finished maps have been locked in a cartography table.
  3. Run /mapart lease release <Lease-ID>.
  4. Run /mapart lease release <Lease-ID> confirm within 30 seconds to finalize the release.

Automated Reset Process

Upon release confirmation or grace period expiration, an automated reset starts:

  • Any players remaining inside the plot are safely evacuated to a designated spawn location.
  • The Map Bounds and work buffer are cleared of all player builds.
  • Bedrock is placed at base-y - 1, the default surface material (e.g. Smooth Stone) is set at base-y, and all higher blocks are replaced with Air.
  • All non-player entities (item frames, armor stands, dropped items, and containers) are permanently removed.
